Tender issued to expedite Ambala Airport upgrades, completion in six months

The Ambala Airport project in Haryana is set to take off as it receives an administrative approval of ₹16 crore for various construction works. Initially, ₹3.76 crore will be allocated for the construction of reception areas at the terminal, with more funds to follow for additional developments like parking and arrival and departure areas. The project is being executed by Zirakpur-based M/s Aggarwal Engineers and Contractors.

Foundation stone laying on October 15

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar is scheduled to lay the foundation stone of the domestic airport in Ambala Cantonment on October 15. Following the ceremony, terminal construction will commence, aiming for completion within six months, according to Anil Dahiya, Managing Director of the Haryana State Roads and Bridges Development Corporation (HSRDC).

The airport, also known as the Civil Enclave, will operate under the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation's Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) - Udaan 3.0. Initially, it will use an Indian Air Force (IAF) strip for flight operations, with buses shuttling passengers between the terminal and aircraft. The airport is expected to offer flights to Varanasi and Srinagar initially.

Boosting development and employment opportunities

Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij emphasized the strategic importance of the airport's location, serving passengers from Haryana, Western UP, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. He highlighted its potential to enhance Ambala's status, attract investors, and boost industries, leading to increased employment opportunities.

The Ambala Airport project was approved in December 2018 and faced delays due to land-related issues near the IAF base. After extensive deliberations, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh approved 20 acres of defence land for the terminal's construction, resolving the land obstacle. The project holds promise for improved connectivity and economic development in the region.
